Ven. Alypius the Stylite; Our Holy Father Innocent, Bishop of Irkutsk (1731); St Nikon Metanoite ("Repent!") (ca. 1000)
Tuesday of the 24th week after Pentecost
Tone 6. Nativity Fast: fish, wine and oil allowed. What this means
The Epistle
1 Thessalonians 3:8–13
For now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord. 9For what thanks can we render to God again for you, for all the joy wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God; 10Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith? 11Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you. 12And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you: 13To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.
The Gospel
Luke 19:45–48
And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought; 46Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves. 47And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him, 48And could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.
